  1. What services do you provide?

The educational needs of a society are diverse and we are committed to reflecting that. We have several existing program options in place. Our one-on-one tutoring is the most popular. Highly-qualified tutors are assigned to individual students and work with them in their homes or in another neutral location. Because students are helped by the same tutor, trust and rapport quickly build, enabling the student to overcome any barriers he or she may have had.

We also provide services for parents who wish to educate students in a group. Parents may decide how many students should be in the same tutoring group, the location in which to meet, and the diversity of the subjects to cover. Depending on the situation, more than one tutor may be supplied to ensure individual attention to each student.

We also provide classes for the community (both free and for a fee), because we recognize that education is an experience to be shared by the community as a whole. These classes will typically be held throughout the year in public locations with approximately 15-20 students per class. Some may be workshops that only last a few hours, some may be longer-term classes lasting up to the full school year. We are always open to suggestions from the community and from our tutors for new classes to host.

As we are able, we also organize groups of volunteer tutors to provide after-school homework help at particular schools. This allows for a large number of students to receive assistance, and also helps the school support their children.

We know that different families may need different arrangements, and we are happy to work with a family to try to design a custom-program for their specific situation. Please contact us via our contact form or call one of our representatives at 1-888-8 The ELF for more information.

  2. What tools do you provide to help parents stay involved?

Supportive parents are one of the most important components to a successful education. Many parents believe that if they are not familiar with a subject, they cannot help their child. This is not true. We at The ELF are committed to helping parents stay involved with their child’s progress, regardless of the parent’s own knowledge. Parents, tutors and students are encouraged to stay in constant communication regarding the student’s progress. Many times, an action as simple as having the child explain a concept to the parent can make all the difference. We provide a unique online system for parents and tutors to stay in contact. Each family and tutor is assigned a login to our member’s page. Here, users can check e-mail from the tutor or from the directors of The ELF. Users can also check the calendar for upcoming tutoring sessions, schedule new tutoring sessions, or change the time and location of tutoring sessions. Tutors are also required to maintain a log noting topics covered, progress the student has made, any assignments the tutor has given the child, and any other information that may be useful to the parents. Families can check this information at any time of the day by simply logging in. Additionally, students can upload documents that the tutor can access to help him/her provide better assistance. The member’s page also provides fun links such as riddles and puzzles, so that parents and children can learn together.

  3. Are there any guarantees?

Each child has different needs and responds differently to any tutoring program. Our goal in interacting with your child is to allow them to grow intellectually and emotionally, and this cannot be judged with a standardized measuring stick. Your child’s progress is far too complex and important to us to be represented with a simple test, so we ask that you look for improvements in grades, attitude and outlook. We carefully track a student’s progress, and this information is readily accessible to parents at any time using our members page. If you feel at any time that your student is not progressing appropriately, we will sit down with you personally to make an arrangement that best benefits your child’s unique needs.

  5. How does the process work?

The first step is to contact us for more information. Within 24 hours, we will get in touch with you to give you more information as well as to schedule your free consultation. After we have met with you and have a clear understanding of your needs, we will select one of our highly qualified tutors to meet with you. You can discuss the approach with your tutor and determine if they are a strong match. You and the tutor will decide on a time to meet as well as a location. 10. How far will I have to travel for a tutoring session?

Our tutor matching process takes into consideration your geographic location and tries to partner you with a tutor in your area. We expect that most of our clients will either receive tutoring in their own homes, or have to travel small distances.

  11. How are tutors and clients matched?

Tutors and clients are matched based on compatibility of different levels. We take into account the location, the subject(s), personalities, special skills the student may need, and the experiences of both the tutor and the client. On occasion, we may select multiple tutors that we feel are a good match and allow the client to make a final decision. If a match is made where either the client or the tutor is not comfortable, a new match may be requested.

  12. How much is the pay for tutor?
    Submitted Question

The goal of The Equal Learning Foundation is to be able to provide tutoring for anyone who needs it, including families who cannot afford to pay for the full cost of tutoring. For that reason, we cannot guarantee a fixed rate to any of our tutors. That said, however, we make an effort to pay our tutors as much as we can, an often pay better than most other tutoring companies. The wage for a tutoring job is determined on a case-by-case basis and the tutor can choose the families they would like to work with.
